The Presidential Task Force (PTF), has revealed that, the proposed Madagascar Cure will not be tested on Nigerians, without it going through regulatory process.
PTF's National Coordinator, Dr Sani Aliyu, disclosed during Tuesday’s briefing of the PTF.
"As directed by Mr President, I want to state again that any medication coming in to the country whether it’s a herbal cure or concoction or a proper drug."
"It has to be subjected to the normal regulatory process. This drug (Madagascar Cure) will go through the normal expertise process which will be quite stringent before it can be administered to anybody within the country."
He also noted that part of the guidelines of the National Agency For Food And Drug Administration Control (NAFDAC) is that "no drug and related product can be manufactured, imported, exported, advertised, sold or distributed in the country unless legally registered."
On Monday, Health Minister, Osagie Ehanire, explained that when the drug, known as COVID-Organics arrives, health authorities will get a sample of the botanical product for analysis.
According to him, the botanical product is called Artemisia Annua (and) also grows here (Nigeria); but we will like to get the sample, compare with the strain here to see if they are identical and see what properties it has."
We will speak with the health authorities here especially the science community on how they use it but obviously to give to the research team to see what they can do with it," he added
