Lagos Magistrates’ Court Arraigns & Admit Wife Beater N500M Bail

Ex-Director of Finance Nigerian Air Force , Jacobs Adigun To Forfeit 12 Houses To FG

12 landed properties linked to a former Director of Finance at the Nigerian Air Force, Air Vice-Marshal Jacobs Adigun and believed to be proceeds of a N21.4bn fraud allegedly perpetrated by Adigun alongside Air Commodore Olugbenga Gbadebo and a former Chief of Air Staff, Air Marshal Adesola Amosu (retd.), has been handed over to the federal government by a Federal High Court sitting in Lagos.

The N21.4bn fraud allegedly perpetrated by the former military chiefs include N200m paid into NAF Operations account by the Office of the National Security Adviser on January 7, 2014, ; N3bn maritime security support paid to NAF by the Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency in September 2014; and 18.2bn moved out of NAF accounts into various cronies’ companies.

A temporary forfeiture of the properties scattered across Lagos and Abuja was granted by Justice Mohammed Liman, following an ex parte application filed by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission.

Properties believed to bought with proceeds of the alleged fraud include houses at No. 27 Agodogba Avenue, Parkview Estate, Ikoyi, Lagos; No. 40A Bourdillon Road, Ikoyi, Lagos; Plot 164, Victoria Island Annex (Sinari Daranijo Street), VI, Lagos; Block 54A, Plot 14, Lekki Peninsula Scheme One; Capador Plaza, Adetokunbo Ademola Street, Wuse II, Abuja; Plot 762 Aminu Kano Crescent, Wuse II, Abuja; and No. 39 Agdez Street, Wuse II, Abuja; Sand Lake Hotel, Plot 3497 Sand Lake Street, Maitama, Abuja; Plot No. 61 Lake Chad Street, Maitama Abuja; No. 2 Imo Rivers Close, off Danube Crescent, Maitama, Abuja; and No. 2 River Palata Street, Maitama, Abuja.

The anti-graft agency was directed to publish the forfeiture order in a national daily newspaper to put interested parties on notice. The case was subsequently adjourned till June 9 for anyone with interest in the properties to appear in court to give reasons why it should not be permanently forfeited to the Federal Government.

Court Orders Lawmakers in Uganda To Pay Back Money They Awarded Themselves To Combat Coronavirus

A Ugandan court on Wednesday ordered lawmakers to pay back money they had awarded themselves to combat Coronavirus.

The High Court of Uganda ruled that MPs return all the money they received as part of a package they approved to fight Coronavirus in their constituencies must be repaid or transferred to national or district Covid-19 taskforces.

According to The Observer newspaper, an allocation of 2.4 million euros was paid into the individual accounts of lawmakers earlier in April.

The publication claimed that the money was initially approved as part of a bigger budgetary package, and was intended to be used for sensitisation about the virus before the lawmakers decided to pay the money into their individual accounts.

President Yoweri Museveni condemned the lawmakers for their decision to share the large sum among themselves, describing the move as “morally reprehensible”.

According to the statistics from the Africa Centres for Disease Control and Prevention, Uganda has 79 confirmed cases of Coronavirus with no deaths so far.

Court Orders Atiku, Saraki to Pay N5m for Unauthorised Use of Photos for Campaign

A Federal High Court in Lagos has ordered the 2019 presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, and his Campaign Director, Dr Bukola Saraki, to pay N5m damages to a Lagos trader, Amuda Adeleke, for unauthorised use of her photograph on their campaign billboard.

Justice Ayokunle Faji, who made the monetary award in a judgment on Monday, said the N5m would be jointly and severally paid by Atiku, Saraki, the PDP and Peter Obi, who was Atiku’s running mate in the poll.

In s suit marked FHC/L/CS/19, Adeleke had told the court that the defendants used her photograph on their campaign billboard without her consent.

The trader said this caused her embarrassment and she prayed the court to award N45m against the defendants for infringing on her fundamental right to privacy as enshrined, in the 1999 Constitution.

But after entering judgment in her favour, Justice Faji awarded N5m against the defendants.

Adeleke said she was however shocked when she began to receive phone calls from those who knew her, calling her attention to her photograph on the PDP campaign billboards in Lagos, Abuja and elsewhere.

“All my friends who saw the campaign billboard said it portrayed me as a woman stricken with poverty who had lost all hope and was prepared to commit suicide,” she said.
