A young lady, Oluwafunmilola Adisa, on Monday, drowned her 21-month-old daughter, Oluwanifemi, in a bucket of water at their residence on Plot 221 Gowon Estate, in the Ipaja area of Lagos State.

After committing the crime, the 22-year-old went to the Gowon Estate Police Station to report herself.

The culprit, in a lengthy letter to her sister, narrated how she perpetrated the crime, claiming shame and hardship made her killed the toddler.

In the note, Oluwafunmilola said since the birth of the child all she had known was hardships, adding that her arrival caused her admission to study law at the university.

“I turned myself in after killing my daughter on Monday, May 11, 2020,” the Ogun state native said in her narrative.

“At first, I was thinking of strangling her, later I thought of suffocating her with a pillow, but my sister warned me to keep Oluwanifemi away from water after she had a dream and that gave me the idea of drowning her.

“On the day of the incident, around 2pm, Oluwanifemi was assisting me to dress up, because she thought that I would take her out with me. But I told her that she was not going anywhere because she would die that day and I would be going to the police station after killing her. So, I opened a big bucket of water, threw her in and covered the bucket, but she was able to push away the cover.

“The water in the bucket was not much, so, I poured more water in it, but she was still able to push away the cover to breathe, so I turned her upside down, threw her in the bucket of water and closed it.

“After some time, I saw her floating and when I brought her out, she was still breathing. I put her in again and brought her out after some time, but she was still breathing and at the third attempt, I left her for some minutes till she died. I didn’t feel any pain killing her, because I was desperate.”

After perpetrating the crime, Oluwafunmilola stated that she wrote a letter to her sister, Damilola, to inform her that she had fulfilled the promise of killing her baby, adding that she took the action because of the shame the baby’s birth had brought to her and as a result of lack of money.

She stated,

“The reason for the drastic decision is lack of financial help; I was tired and ashamed; when I gained admission to study law at the Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife, Osun State, I got pregnant and deferred my admission, which I later lost.

“So killing my baby and losing my admission have a connection. I felt I would be free if I kill her and would be able to go anywhere I like and no one would disturb me that I had a daughter outside wedlock.

“After she died, I removed her from the bucket of water, placed her remains on a pillow and covered her with a white cloth. I confirmed that she was dead, because her legs and hands were very pale; her tongue also popped out in between her teeth.

“I also dropped the note I wrote to Damilola beside her corpse and the reason I wrote the letter was to let my sister know that I was the one who killed Oluwanifemi and that I was going to report myself at the police station.

“I had been telling Damilola of my plans to kill her, but she usually prevailed on me. I wanted to carry out my plan on Sunday, but Damilola started calling our parents and the pastor, so I postponed it till Monday, when I was home alone with my daughter. Damilola had gone to work when I killed her.”

The letter that Oluwafunmilola wrote to her sister read in part,

“Good day Damilola, thanks for everything you have done for me and Mama (Oluwanifemi), for the fake love, real love, false accusations, lies, and everything. The purpose of writing this letter is because Mama (Oluwanifemi) is dead. I soaked her inside a bucket filled with water and I am telling you to know that I have fulfilled it. Extend my greetings to father, pastor, friends. Goodbye forever, don’t look for me, save your money and invest.”

She claimed that the father of her baby, one Folarin Yusuf, abandoned her after she got pregnant.

When contacted, the state Police Public Relations Officer, Bala Elkana, said Oluwafunmilola was in custody, adding that she would be charged.

Elkana stated,

“When we got the report that a woman was suspected to have killed her baby, our homicide detectives went there and found the baby dead on the bed. But the woman left a note beside the baby’s corpse that she was the one who killed her.

“She confessed that she dipped the baby in a bucket of water three times till she died and said she was frustrated and killed the innocent baby because she was tired of life. The State Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department has commenced investigation into the matter. The suspect will be charged for the crime.”

Undergraduate & Accomplice To Die By Hanging In Rivers

Justice Adolphus Enebeli of the Rivers High Court sitting in Port Harcourt, has sentenced one Ifeanyi Maxwell Dike to death by hanging for the killing of an eight-year-old Victory Chikamso, for ritual purposes in 2017.

Also sentenced to death with Dike is one Ugochukwu Nwamairo, his accomplice, who reportedly requested for the supply of the human body parts for money ritual.

Also an Ex-Police Sergeant, who allegedly aided Dike’s escape from prison custody the night after his detention, Johnbosco Okoronze, got one year imprisonment for adding and abating escape of the murderer, Dike.

Dike, a 200-Level Physics student of the University of Port Harcourt, (UNIPORT), on August 18, 2017 allegedly strangled his victim, who was also his niece and primary two pupil of a private school port Harcourt, the state capital in his (Dike’s) room at Eliozu community, in Obio/Akpor Local Government of the state and removed the vital parts of her body.

Chikamso’s body parts such as breast, private part, fingers, ear, heart and eye lid, among others were discovered missing when the remains were found with Dike.

He was on his way to the community central crash bin at midnight to dispose of what was left of the body of the child when he was apprehended by men of the community vigilante and handed over to the police.

The duo, Dike and Nwamiro, was found guilty on the two count charge of conspiracy and murder level against them.

Sentencing them, Justice Enebeli pronounced that Dike should be hung on his neck until he dies, while Nwamiro should be hung on his leg until he dies (upside down).

The Court explained that it decided to sentence the Ex-Police Sergeant to just one year jail term because he has already served two years in prison from the time he was arrested, and that he has been dismissed from police force, since the case began.

He noted that Nwamairo’s conviction and sentence was based on Dike’s evidence in chief and voluntary confession/ statement at four different occasions that, the second defendant (Nwamairo), had requested the body parts of a little girl, including the heart for financial independence.

The Court ruled that the Prosecution proved his case beyond reasonable doubts while insisting that counsel to Dike, Lezina Amegwa “in his written address did not deny the fact that his client commit the murder but said he was not in his right frame of mind when he committed the act, meaning that he was mentally deranged, insane.”

The Court verdict caused panic and serious outburst among Nwamairo’s family members who were in Court when the judgement was delivered.

His wife collapsed and was carried away by other members of the family present while one of the brothers, was noticed shouting on top of his voice, insisting that the brother was innocent of the crime adding that the judgement was wrong and would be appealed as they cries profusely.

Speaking to newsmen shortly, the state Prosecution Counsel, Chidi Eke described the judgement as landmark, adding that “it has brought about justice for the state, the family of late Victory Chikamso and the soul of the departed.”

However, council to Nwamiro, John Ndah expressed displeasure over the judgement and assured that it would be appealed.

As for Dike and his Lawyer Amegwa, it is all over with the case, “we may not appeal the matter because of the circumstances in the judgement”, they concluded.

It would be recalled that Dike escaped from police custody, using the darkness of the night to run away from the cell of the State criminal investigation Department, the night he was arrested and was re-arrested in Jos, Plateau state, two weeks after.

"I Don't Want Her To Die Of Hunger" - Woman Who Sells Her New Born Baby For N130,000.00

A 20-Year-old woman was arrested by the police for selling her newborn for N130,000 to suspected traffickers on Monday said the money she took was for her upkeep and that she gave the child away because it would have died of hunger in her care.

The suspect identified as Miracle Kalu was trailed to Imo State by the police in Lagos after operatives on pin-down patrol on April 26 intercepted a couple with a month-old  baby.

Policemen attached to Anthony Division around 2am that day while manning a roadblock at Anthony Oke, intercepted a Toyota Sienna bus carrying seven passengers including one Patrick Mbama, 41, and Ogechi Chinonso Ekwebele, 30, carrying the baby.

While all the occupants were held for violating the ban on inter-state travels, the police team discovered suspicious movements between the couple carrying the baby which prompted further probing.

It was gathered that the suspects upon interrogation, said they were coming from Orlu in Imo State and were in Lagos to deliver the baby to a childless couple.

Ekwebele was said to have had a birth certificate which indicated the child was born on March 23 and the parent’s names indicated as Izuchukwu Okafor, 51, and his wife Cecilia, 40, who turned out to be the childless couple in need of a baby.

The Okafors were subsequently arrested and detained alongside the other two as the police continued investigation to locate the child’s parents to be sure the baby was not stolen. Kalu was eventually located in Imo .

Hoodlums Breaks Into National Assembly, Vandalise Rep's Spokesman Office

Suspected hoodlums have broken into the office suites of Rep. Benjamin Kalu, Spokesman of the House Of Representatives, despite the arrays of security personnel manning the offices and premises of the National Assembly. 

The office is located at suite 1.53, House of Representatives (New Wing), National Assembly Complex, Three Arms Zone, Abuja.

Aside Sergeant-At-Arm which forms the internal security architecture of the National Assembly; there are over 300 other personnel, comprising the Police, Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps, the Federal Road Safety Corps and the Department of State Service (DSS); with the Nigerian Army, Navy, Air Force, Immigration and Fire Service having Liaison Offices within the Complex.

Yet, insecurity, robbery, theft, burglary, oil bunkering, impersonation, extortions and other crimes have continued unabated.

In 2016, DAILY POST reported how a syndicate involved in oil bunkering within the National Assembly Complex was bursted and arrested.

There have also been reported cases of car thefts, vandalization, thefts of car batteries and looting of some commercial shops within the Complex.

Since the National Assembly resumed partial plenary on Tuesday, 28th April 2020, after a 6-week shutdown; the joint security of the National Assembly has made the entrance into the complex a watertight scenario, with even Journalists barred from accessing the premises, except the Lawmakers who only report for plenaries on Tuesdays.

Chairman, House Committee on Media and Public Affairs and Spokesman of the Green Chamber, Rep Kalu, while narrating how his office was burgled, said the doors to his office suites were all properly locked by his Aides last Tuesday, the 5th of May, 2020, when the Parliament last sat.

He said, “upon resumption of work at the above-mentioned office on the morning of Tuesday, 12th May 2020, my aide observed that electrical power in the entire suite had been turned off.

“Upon further investigation, we were shocked to find that the corridor entrance into my main office was mysteriously unlocked, having been used to gain entrance into the suite.

“We also observed that a wooden cabinet previously used to barricade the entrance from inside had been forced aside and that several of the items hitherto occupying the top of the cabinet lay strewn across the floor, indicating signs of an unauthorised entry”.

Kalu, who provided picture and video exhibits of his vandalised office, insisted that his offices were “meticulously locked” last Tuesday and nobody was permitted to have access into the suite until this morning.

The Lawmaker said his office was “currently taking inventory of all items and documents in the office to ascertain which items are missing” while calling on the security agencies to conduct “a swift and thorough investigation” into the matter.

16 Years Old House Girl Killed In Lagos, 4 Suspect Arrested

Lagos state policemen have arrested four persons for allegedly killing a househelp in the Bariga area of the state.

A statement released by Bala Elkana, spokesperson of the state police command, says men of the Bariga Police station received a tipoff on May 9 that one Shade Moke, 41,  conspired with three others on February 29  and allegedly killed her 16-year-old househelp, Halimat Sodiq, over an allegation of stealing.

The victim is said to be a house help to Shade Moke. She was accused of stealing N2000 from her madam which she denied. The madam invited the remaining three suspects who tortured the girl to death. They buried her secretly at Atan cemetery Lagos, so as to conceal the murder. The four suspects were arrested but they denied the allegations.

They however, admitted slapping the girl for denying that she stole the money. They claimed that the girl went into convulsion after drinking water and that they took her to three different hospitals before she eventually died. That the girl was buried by her parents not the suspects. The parents were also contacted for their statement” Bala’s statement read.

Meanwhile, the police spokesperson said the Commissioner of Police in the state, CP Hakeem Odumosu psc, has ordered the immediate transfer of the case to the State Criminal Investigation Department Yaba for discreet investigation and diligent prosecutions and suspects will soon be charged to Court.

"I Have Sacrificed A lot, Please Keep My Son In Prison" Father Begs Police

Pa Olasupo, a resident of Osogbo, Osun State, has begged the police to keep his son in a correctional centre as long as necessary after allegedly stabbing a neighbour with a knife.

Oladimeji Supo, 37, was ordered to be remanded following his arraignment on Wednesday for assault and theft before a Magistrates’ Court sitting in Osogbo.

Please keep my son in prison, father begs police. Pa Olasupo, on the court premises, said his son was very tempestuous and given to violence.

He said, “I have sacrificed a lot for him. The court has done what is right. I am not interested in his bail.

Enough is enough. I have gone to so many places to rescue him anytime he ran into trouble.

Pregnant Woman Kills Her Husband Over A Phone Call With Another Woman

NASARAWA State Command of the Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps, NSCDC, has arrested a 22-year-old pregnant woman, Veronica Boniface, for allegedly stabbing her husband to death over a phone call with a strange woman.

Parading the suspect at the command headquarters in Lafia, the NSCDC state commandant, Habu Fari, said the woman was arrested in Obene town of Keana Local Government Area of the state, after an intelligence report.

According to the NSCDS boss, the husband was rushed to the hospital after she stabbed the husband with a kitchen knife following an argument about a phone call from a purported strange woman.

Speaking with newsmen, Veronica said she regretted her action and pleaded for leniency.

The suspect disclosed that she was one-month-pregnant for her late husband.

She explained that it was the handiwork of the devil, saying that she intended to scare her husband and collect the phone, but eventually ended up killing him.
