Covid-19: Residents of Senegalese Capital Receive Free Bread For Ramadan

The Ministry of Trade in partnership with local bakers in prevention of the spread of coronavirus during the Ramadan period have embarked on Free bread to the residence in Senegalese capital. Free bread is on going for some residents in the Senegalese capital Dakar, they are having bread delivered to their homed uring the Muslim holy month of Ramadan, free of charge.

The “Jaayma Mburu” project loosely translated to mean “Sell me bread”, was launched by Senegal’s Ministry of Trade with local bakeries to spare people from queues and exposure to the coronavirus.

“This project allows us to avoid spreading the virus. We are trying to take as few risks as possible and we are encouraging people to stay home.

“We have a certain elite who have been used for many years to having bread, croissants and a lot of things delivered during Ramadan. Today, this product is accessible to everyone,” Bamba Lô, co-founder of Paps said of the project.

Since a lockdown was imposed due to the virus spread, some residents have been able to dial the numbers of four delivery companies and have their bread brought to them, without paying only for the price of the baguette, generally around 20 cents.

With this virus, I don’t even dare to go to the market, let alone a bakery. Didn’t you see the rush? There’s too much hustle and bustle. That’s what I avoid. And I avoid it for the kids, too. That’s why I chose to work with this gentleman, who delivers me directly to my home,” one beneficiary said.

However, free deliveries will end with Ramadan, but the profession is building up its own fleet of vehicles to enable the JaayMa Mburu project to continue during the fight against the pandemic.

Zakzaky Donates Food Worth Millions To The Poor, Says Prison Won’t Stop Generosity

Shaikh Ibraheem Zakzaky, the leader of the Islamic Movement in Nigeria, has sent foodstuffs worth millions of Naira to the needy across Kaduna state.

He said it was his age long family practice to identify with the underprivileged and life in prison wouldn’t change his principle.

Zakzaky described Ramadan as a blessed month, saying the items he distributed were to enable the beneficiary mark the beginning of this year’s Ramadan.

The food items included among others, bags of sugar, rice, maize and millet

Zakzaky’s surviving son, Muhammad Ibraheem Zakzaky, stood for his father during the distribution exercise.

Muhammad said his detained father instructed the distribution of the items to assist as many needy Nigerians as possible during the Ramadan.

He said it had been Sheikh Ibraheem Zakzaky’s practice to share food items to the poor for over 20 years and that had continued even after the Buhari-led government disrupted their movement.

“Sheikh Zakzaky sends his best wishes to Muslims all over the world and assures them of his prayers throughout the fasting period,” he said.

Kano State Governor, Ganduje, Asks Buhari To Relax Lockdown Over Ramadan

President Buhari had on Monday during a nationwide broadcast ordered a total lockdown on Kano following the rise of COVID-19 cases and the strange deaths in the state.

The Kano State Governor, Abdullahi Ganduje, has appealed to President Muhammadu Buhari to ease the 14-day total lockdown imposed on the state.

Ganduje, while speaking on Thursday, while inaugurating a panel of experts to support the state task force technical committee, said it is important to relax the lockdown for a while in order to ease the hardship in the state, especially in the holy month of Ramadan. 

He said, “We would engage the Presidential Task Force on COVID-19 to seek permission to relax the total lockdown imposed on Kano.

We are making this appeal on behalf of our people who are presently running out of food items. We would love the Federal government to relax the lockdown for a period of time to enable people stock their homes, especially now that majority of us are fasting. It will also ease the economic hardship in the state.”
