Congo Receives Madagascar Covid-19 Cure Donations

Republic of Congo confirmed receipt of COVID-Organics, the touted Malagasy herbal cure for coronavirus. The consignment, a donation from Madagascar, arrive in Brazzaville on Tuesday, May 5.

Minister of State and director of cabinet at the presidency, Florent Ntsiba, received the donation from a delegation that flew to the Malagasy capital to import the consignment.

Part of the consignment was also to be sent to neighbouring Democratic Republic of Congo, whose president Felix Tshisekedi is among leaders who have hailed the yet to be scientifically tested cure.

The government in Brazzaville announced interest in the curative / preventive cure after a meeting between President Sassou and Madagascar’s Andry Rajoelina.

The African Union says it is in talks with Madagascar “through its embassy in Addis Ababa, with a view to obtain technical data regarding the safety and efficiency of a herbal remedy, recently announced by Madagascar for the reported prevention and treatment of COVID19.”

“Once furnished with the details, the Union, through the Africa Centres for Disease Control and Prevention (Africa CDC), will review the scientific data gathered so far on the safety and efficacy of the COVID-19 Organics.

“This review will be based on global technical and ethical norms to garner the necessary scientific evidence regarding the performance of the tonic,” an AU statement further disclosed.

Meanwhile, the World Health Organization, WHO; have reiterated its caution against people putting their faith in herbal remedies that have not been scientifically tested. In a statement, WHO said despite supporting all efforts – including traditional medicines – in search for treatments, it was important that any purported treatments be thoroughly tested.

Republic of Congo will take delivery of a Malagasy ‘cure’ for the virus, COVID-Organics, information minister Thierry Moungalla confirmed on Twitter.

According to him, the decision to turn to the Malagasy mixture was reached after a three-way teleconference between presidents of the two countries as well as the President of Guinea-Bissau.

COVID-Organics although not scientifically proven as a preventive or curative mixture for the virus is gaining grounds on the continent as presidents congratulate their Malagasy counterpart, Andry Rajoelina, for the initiative.

Equatorial Guinea this week sent a special flight to take delivery of tonnes of the cure. It is yet to be ascertained whether Congo like Equatorial Guinea will be receiving the consignment as a donation by the Malagasy government.

The World Health Organization confirms that treatment trials are underway across five African countries but did not mention the now ‘controversial’ Malagasy ‘cure.’

The Republic of Congo’s case count (as of May 2) stood at 229 confirmed cases, including nine deaths and 25 recoveries. Government has extended a national lockdown by two weeks to contain spread of the virus.

Madagascar Request South Africa Support For Scientific Research On It Covid-19 Herbal Cure

South Africa on Wednesday confirmed that Madagascar had requested assistance with scientific research on Artemisia – the herb used in the production of COVID-Organics.

Addressing the issue, Health Minister Zweli Mkhize said South Africa had agreed that its scientists will only assist with analysis of the herb.

“We received a call from the government of Madagascar, who asked for help with scientific research. Our scientists would be able to assist with this research. We will only get involved in a scientific analysis of the herb. We are not at that point yet,” Mkhize tweeted.

The now controversial herb has been donated by the Malagasy government to a number of African countries amongst them: Equatorial Guinea, Republic of Congo and Guinea-Bissau – the latter received a consignment meant for the ECOWAS region.

The African Union, AU, have confirmed that they are in talks with Madagascar over COVID-Organics, the island nation’s purported herbal cure for COVID-19.

A May 4 statement by the AU said it was in contact with Antananarivo “through its embassy in Addis Ababa, with a view to obtain technical data regarding the safety and efficiency of a herbal remedy, recently announced by Madagascar for the reported prevention and treatment of COVID19.”

AU and Malagasy diplomats have held meetings in Addis Ababa with the view to getting necessary information regarding the remedy.

“Once furnished with the details, the Union, through the Africa Centres for Disease Control and Prevention (Africa CDC), will review the scientific data gathered so far on the safety and efficacy of the COVID-19 Organics.

In a statement, WHO said despite supporting all efforts – including traditional medicines – in search for treatments, it was important that any purported treatments be thoroughly tested.

In his last address, President Rajoelina said Madagascar was building a factory to scale up production. He also said the cure was to undergo clinical trials and that aside the drinks, injection options were being pursued. Over half-dozen African countries have expressed interest in it.

Madagascar To Build Factory & Start COVID-19 Organics Clinical Trials.

Madagascan President Andry Rajoelina has announced that clinical trials will start today (May 4) with COVID-Organics. A factory will also be built within a month to boost its production.

The president disclosed the developments during a national address on Sunday during which he extended the state of health emergency in the southern African island nation by 15 days.

According to him, the trials were in partnership with foreign researchers. “A pharmaceutical factory will be set up within a month to increase the production capacity of CovidOrganics. It will be administered in other forms such as injections,” Rajoelina posted on Twitter.

The antiviral properties of Artemisia – the anti-malarial plant at the base of COVID-Organics and its role in building immune capacity have been proven, he added without giving details.

“Thanks to this discovery, international researchers and doctors have proposed the construction of the largest cancer center in Africa in Madagascar,” the president disclosed.

The herbal tea / concoction continues to sharply divide opinion among those that say it needs more attention and others who are dismissing as an unproven ‘solution’ to a malady the world is still grappling to get a grip on.

The profile of the drug has been boosted after about half dozen African leaders publicly endorsed it and requested for consignments. The Malagasy government has so far been distributing it for free in the country and all shipped consignments are for free.

Presidents of Tanzania, Guinea-Bissau, Equatorial Guinea, Comoros, DR Congo, Senegal and the Republic of Congo have congratulated Madagascar for their bold step in combating the rampaging global virus.

Guinea Bissau received a consignment of Covid-Organics, the Malagasy herbal tea touted as having preventive and curative abilities for COVID-19.

A government delegation returned to Bissau with the medication after receiving the consignment in Antananarivo on May 1. It was received by President Umaro Sissoco Embalo.

The president said at the ceremony: “This donation part of the fight against the global pandemic called COVID-19. I would like to say that with this, Guinea-Bissau will be seen as a different kind of nation.

“It will be seen as a country that still has good people. And today, the world will talk about Guinea-Bissau,” he added.

The president of Madagascar, Andry Rajoelina (the youngest president in Africa) in his speech to the delegation said “If today we want to leave a new Africa to our children, it is we, Heads of States of the continent, who must commit ourselves to change the course of history and the lives of our fellow citizens. Let us act for the care of our peoples. Union is stronger than division.”

Yesterday, a virtual meeting of some 10 African leaders were held to discuss, among other things, the effectiveness of using the CVO medicine in treating covid-19 patients in Africa.

This is a strong step in ending over dependence on foreign aids and support. We are capable of innovations when united. This should be a great lesson to our leaders going forward.

According to Embalo’s chief of staff, Califa Soares Cassama, 14 other members of the regional ECOWAS bloc are waiting for what many consider to be the “magic COVID-19 mixture.”

During the ceremony in Madagascar, President Rajoelina intimated that the donation was for countries across the region. The tonnage and type of COVID-Organics remains unknown.

The packages received by head of the Guinean delegation were branded with flags of different ECOWAS nations. Rajoelina also thanked Embalo for accepting to distribute the consignment to neighbouring countries. ECOWAS secretariat has yet to speak on the issue.

As of May 3: donations have been officially made to Equatorial Guinea and Guinea-Bissau. Republic of Congo, Tanzania and Comoros have all publicly expressed interest in receiving donations.

President Rajoelina has also spoken to leaders of Senegal, and the Democratic Republic of Congo, with both peers lauding the Malagasy effort.

Meanwhile, the Africa Centers for Disease Control, Africa CDC, last week confirmed that treatment trials are underway across five African countries but did not mention the Malagasy ‘cure.’

(See Photos) Madagascar Found Cure to Covid-19 Having Zero Case Record

Madagascar with a land mass of 587,041 square kilometers with a population of over 27 million people.

Had it’s first corona virus cases on March 23rd with a total number of 9 confirmed cases in its first day.

That looks like a looming danger to the citizens, which spawned fear across every nook and cranny of the nation.

Over a period of a month from 23rd March to April 23, the cases came in randomly till they had recorded a total of 121 confirmed cases with the last case on 19th April.

Citizens in Madagascar on Thursday thronged to receive COVID-Organics, the local herbal remedy said to prevent and cure coronavirus.

President Andry Rajoelina launched the cure earlier this week disclosing that it had cured two patients. He said it was to be distributed for free to citizens and for all school going children. Schools reopened on Wednesday across the country.

“All trials and tests have been conducted and its effectiveness in reducing the elimination of symptoms has been proven for the treatment of patients with COVID-19 in Madagascar,” the president said.

When I discovered this drink, I hesitated as a parent. I said to myself: 'How come the sick people don't drink it, and why do we make students drink it?' I hesitated a lot.

The AFP news agency showed scores of people queuing for the remedy, taking fortions from officials wearing protective gear.

The president said this remedy cures and we trust him so we drink it,” one woman who received her dose told the media.

“When I discovered this drink, I hesitated as a parent. I said to myself: ‘How come the sick people don’t drink it, and why do we make students drink it?’ I hesitated a lot,” another citizen quizzed.

Over this period they have resorted to searching several possible ways to treating the infected persons and recording gradual number of recoveries up to date.

In general as at today 24th April, they have recorded a total of 58 recoveries and no single death has been recorded

Most importantly, it’s been 5 days now and no new cases have been recorded again in the country.

What exactly are they doing different?

Their president had recently declared that they have found both preventive and curative treatment for the virus.

And have declared it publicly with the president seen while tasting the syrup they have discovered from their research lab on their national TV.

Activities have returned to normalcy in Madagascar and school children to resume their various schools from Wednesday in the coming week.

The medicine which is called “Covid Organic” or “CVO” is made compulsory for the citizens, and to be given free to all school children and most vulnerable citizens while the wealthier fellows to purchase theirs.

And all the money that will be made from the sales of the medicine is to be pushed back into their science research institute.

Meanwhile, scientists have warned against the purported cure stressing that there is currently no cure for the virus. President Rajoelina disclosed that a fellow African president has since hailed Madagascar for the discovery.

Excellent discussion with the President Tshisekedi of DRC who congratulates us on the improved traditional Covid-Organics remedy.

“Africa is united and develops solutions against COVID-19 thanks to its natural heritage. The Malagasy are by the side of their brothers,” he posted on Twitter. He held a video conference with the Congolese leader on Wednesday.

Could this be the end of coronavirus in Africa?

Well, WHO have not approved the medicine claiming that it was locally made....
